Bar-Bar-A has been successfully watering horses the easy way for over 25 years. Horses learn quickly and have ready access to fresh water. Why Choose Bar Bar A Automatic Waterers
Summertime Cool Water
Hot water in traditional automatic horse waterers, tanks, or buckets, limit water consumption. Decreased water consumption results in more trips to the Vet and limited mental and body function.
Wintertime Warmer Water
Animals have the same problem of proper water consumption with the standing water exposed to the icy frigid air. Because the source water for our units comes from a buried water line, the temperature of the water is consistent. In the winter the water is much warmer than standing water and in the summer the water is much cooler. Whether you are in the hot hill country of Texas or the frosty New York Adirondacks, Bar-Bar-A Horse Waterer Drinker gives your horses what they need- Clean, Fresh, Water at the right temperature- and all this without algae and without electricity.
Enjoy fresh tasting water without all the algae that can grow in stagnant standing water. From 4 models to choose from you can customize to fit your situation.
The Bar-Bar-A watering system bay be installed in barns or pastures. They are equally effective in both settings. The unit is versatile in that it may be installed in a fence line or between two stalls making it possible for horses on both sides of divide to access the water.
Your horse requires a constant source of clean and fresh water. A horse’s body consists of approximately 70 percent water. Most experts agree that water is the most important element in a horse’s health. Feed, minerals, and vitamins are secondary to water.
Daily Water Consumption
Your horse’s daily water consumption needs to equal the amount of water lost through urine and sweat in a 24 hour period. For an average sized horse that amounts to about 6-10 gallons per day. A quick test to see if your horse is getting enough water is to softly pinch the skin on the neck and turn the skin right or left. Time how long it takes for the skin to resume its former position. Anything less than 2 seconds means your horse is getting the proper amount of water. Another way to check this is to fold your horse’s top lip back and with your finger press down firmly on the gum. Use the two second rule to see how long it takes for the white made from the depression, to fill back in with pink.
With the Bar-Bar-A automatic horse drinker your concern for proper water consumption can be alleviated.
How The Automatic Waterers Work Without Electricity to Heat the Water
Bar-Bar-A Horse and Livestock Drinkers work like a frost-free hydrant but designed for animals. Pushing on the paddle the animal receives and drinks water. After finishing drinking the remaining water drains back into the ground leaving an empty bowl. This means that there is no water left behind to freeze in the winter, get hot in the summer, and grow algae or mosquito eggs. With no mosquito attraction, West Nile and Zika Virus can be limited and the standing water which becomes the breeding ground for rodents, birds, and disease is not an issue.
The Automatic Waterers are Self-Cleaning
With no standing water the opportunity for algae to grow is non-existent. This means there is no weekly cleaning associated with this product.
Water Temperature Just Right- All Year Long
In the summer the water comes up cooler and in the winter it is warmer because the water in the waterline is buried in the ground. Clean water at the right temperature is pleasing for animals to drink. This means more water consumption and results in healthier animals.

How Many Animals Need to Drink to Keep the Automatic Waterers From Freezing?
Unlike similar products the Bar-Bar-A does not need any animals drinking from it to keep it from freezing. The unit can handle just 1 animal or up to 25 head enjoying the fresh clean drinking water.
Automatic Waterers Physical Properties
All units are 5 feet in length and buried in the ground 3-3 ½ feet. At the base of the unit a water source is connected with the drinker’s waterline (1/2 inch polypipe). This is the coiled line that you see in the diagram below. The reason for the coiled line is so the inner workings can be pulled up to ground level for maintenance. The unit does not need to be dug up for service.
Training Animals to Drink From the Automatic Waterers
Training horses to drink from the Bar-Bar-A is easy. After installation remove all other water sources. Lead your horse over to the unit and push on the paddle. Rub some water on the nose and then get out of the way. Horses are typically curious and it takes about an hour for them to figure it out. For cattle and other animals place a bucket of water next to the Drinker. This trains the animal to go to the Drinker for water. After a few days remove the bucket from the area. It generally takes 6-12 hours for cattle and other animals to learn to use the drinker. For animals needing extra help the unit has a training mode that can be implemented for training purposes (in the warmer months). In training mode the water can be temporarily stopped from draining so there is always water in the bowl.
